1. Who is Speech Language Therapist (SLT)?
Are professionals who have knowledge in doing assessment , diagnose and help to prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing and fluency in children and adults.
2. How will a SLT help a child with Speech Language Delay (SLD)?
SLT will do the assessment to know the level of SLD in your child. Than the SLT will plan suitable activities to improve your child speeh. The SLT will implement certain objectives to be achieved during the activities. This information will be discussed with parents during the assessment.
3. What is the duration does my child need to attend Speech therapy?
Our SLT will plan an appropriate time frame for your child development. The time frame depends on the child initial level and seriousness of the child speech problem.
4. When should a child see a speech therapist?
It is advisable for parents to obtain a qualified SLT view if they are doubtful about the development of their child speech as early as six months. The delays in evaluating can lead to the development of the child speech progress far behind their age.
5. If my child has swallowing problem, does is effect my child speech development?
Generally swallowing problems can affect the development of a child speech. However not all child who are suffering from swallowing difficulties will face speech delay.
6. Is misarticulating among children is normal problem?
Yes. But depending on the age of the child, every sound produced has a mature age. If a sound cannot be produced properly even though it has passed the maturity level of the sound, the child needs to get help from SLT
7. Can the SLT helps a male adult who has a female voice (puberphonia)?
Yes . Kindly consult our SLT if you are facing this problem.
8. What is the minimum requirement for a SLT to work in Malaysia?
A minimum bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Therapy from Universities is required to conduct speech language therapy in Malaysia.
9. How can I know my child has reached an optimum speech language appropriate for his/her age?
The parents can always consulate with SLT to know about their progress. We encourage the parents to meet up with our SLT especially if the child has seen the SLT for some time.
10. Can I join the therapy season with my child?
Yes. The participation of the parents most welcome. In case your child does not cooperate with the SLT in your presence, you can always monitor their activity with the SLT from the observation rooms that we have at our centre.
